TAMILS AGAINST GENOCIDE: Non-profit Group forms to seek Justice and Criminal Indictments against Government of Sri Lanka officials for Genocide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WASHINGTON, DC - August 04, 2008
Tamils Against Genocide, a non-profit organization, has an exclusive mission: to obtain United States or international indictments against three United States citizens or green card holders currently serving in the Government of Sri Lanka for complicity in genocide, crimes against humanity, or war crimes, including torture and extrajudicial killings, against Sri Lanka’s civilian Tamil population.
The three United States citizens or green card holders accused of genocide are:
*United States citizen GOTABHAYA RAJAPAKSA, Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary, brother of Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and who allegedly has ties to San Dimas, California.
*United States green card holder BASIL RAJAPAKSA, senior Presidential Adviser, Member of Sri Lanka’s Parliament, brother of Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and who allegedly has a primary residence in Fontana, California.
*United States green card holder, SARATH FONSEKA, Lt. General in Sri Lanka’s Armed Forces, and believed to own property through family in Oklahoma.
Tamils Against Genocide will demonstrate to the United States authorities that the legally admissible evidence of genocide or companion crimes against the three United States citizens or green card holders equals or exceeds the genocidal atrocities laid at the feet of Serbia’s Slobodan Milosevic, Bosnian Serb Radovan Karadzic, Bosnian Serb Ratko Mladic, and Sudan’s Omar Bashir.
The United States criminal code punishes genocide, torture, or war crimes perpetrated by United States nationals and non-nationals. Extrajudicial killings may also be sanctioned in United States courts under the Torture Victims Protection Act.
Bruce Fein, former associate deputy attorney general under President Ronald Reagan, will lead the effort to obtain genocide indictments of GOTABHAYA RAJAPAKSA, BASIL RAJAPAKSA, and GENERAL FONSEKA. Mr. Fein’s may be contacted at 703-963-4968 or by email at bfein@tamilsagainstgenocide.org.
